SHUTTLEWORTH - a real hidden gem - almost hidden down a pretty little lane nestled between beautiful fields and hedgerows in the Bedfordshire countryside. Shuttleworth has something for everyone. There was a Discovery Zone with hands on STEM activities, a Tomahawk flight simulator, youth gliding pedal planes and ‘make and paint’ from Airfix. The day was all about Fly Navy with a focus on naval heritage aircraft from the early 1900s to 1960s. The visiting line-up featured some truly wonderful aircraft including the Fairey Swordfish, Catalina, Sea Fury T20 and Bristol Scout. Aircraft from the Fighter Collection included the Grumman Wildcat FM2 and the Goodyear Corsair FG-1D. Displays also featured the Hawker Nimrod K3661, Dragon Rapide, Hawker Fury MK.II and Morane Saulnier and a spectacular helicopter display from the Westland Wasp as well as the highly impressive Gazelles. The day ended on a real high, with excellent flying conditions, for the Victorian planes to take to the air…. truly spectacular.
